Lusty Beg is one of those rare hidden gems so good, you don't want to share it with the rest of the world. Nestled on a 75-acre private island, this charming island lodge hosts a variety of amenities for guests, who arrive via ferry (which takes less than five minutes) and enjoy complete privacy.
The Venue: 'The Willow Room at Lusty Beg caters for up to 200 people, which includes a welcome reception at The Rowan Room to sip on champagne and dine on canapes. Packages are available for weddings of all sizes. The view is second to none.
Overnight: Newlyweds have the option to book exclusive use of the property, but it comes at an additional cost.
Accommodation: Bedrooms are available by the night, whereas self-catering facilities require a two-night stay - these comprise of chalets, lakeside lodges and rooms.
Food: Canapes on arrival comprise of seven options mini venison burgers, duck spring rolls and tomato crostini. Menu options include one soup, one main course and dessert, while one package offers sorbet, a choice of starter and petit fours. It's all locally sourced fresh food, but the medallions of beef with red wine jus and seasonal white fish are top notch recommendations. An evening buffet with finger food is also available.
How much?: The Lusty Mor, Lusty Boa and Lusty Beg packages are the three most popular with prices starting at €38 per person. Prices include accommodation for the bride and groom in the Gate Lodge, four complimentary rooms for guests and prosecco on arrival for the bride and groom. The latter package (€76 per head) includes a couples spa treatment the next day and a choice of three menus. A supplement applies during peak season (May-September, Friday and Saturday) on parties of less than 100.
What you get: All packages include a red carpet arrival; tea, coffee and shortbread on arrival; a bridal suite on night of wedding, a PA system and dedicated wedding coordinator Caroline and more perks (see below).
Something to think about: The setting speaks for itself. But the novelty of taking a three minute ferry to your island destination is more exciting than you'd think.
Perks: There's the opportunity to have a civil ceremony on the lakeside deck if you're the outdoors type. The central location of the Island Spa means there's always a touch-up just a few feet away for your beauty needs.
The catch: Relaxation is the name of the game, which means you're disconnected with the rest of world when you're away from the main house. Wifi is chalets is non-existent, but you'll be so busy with your wedding party you mightn't notice.
