Although your Facebook feed may be evidence enough, according to fine diamond jeweller Valentina, December is the most popular month of the year to get engaged, with one in five engagements in Ireland taking place during the festive month.
The amount of money that the groom-to-be spends on the engagement ring differs greatly throughout the country, however, with some grooms spending five times the amount on a sparkler than others.
Cork men are the largest spenders, reports Valentina, splashing €3500 on a ring, while Westmeath men spend the least, at €729.
Dublin men spend a hefty €2149, with Galway lads spending €1149.
Cavan and Monaghan men spend €899 and €1149 respectively.
However, while four in five men keep the cost of the engagement ring secret from their bride-to-be, one in three lie about the cost.
Two in five men even go so far as to say they spent double the price they actually paid for it, with the reasons for lying include trying to impress the in-laws and making their fiancée feel better.
It's the thought that counts, right?
