The singer said 'yes' to her partner of one year, Pastor Chad Johnson, when he popped the question on the romantic setting of Pebble Beach in California.
Chad, a pro sports chaplain, got down on one knee to present his bride-to-be with a 5-carat diamond, which he revealed he had been saving for for over ten years, despite only being with Michelle for one.
“On my 30th birthday, everybody came and celebrated me," the pastor told People, "The next day, I woke up alone. I was so lonely. I had a little pity party.
"My personal life was lacking so much, and I was living so single. So as a response to that moment, I opened up a ring account, and for 11 years, I put $150 into a ring account.”
The chaplain, 40, held out hope for over a decade that he'd find the one, before meeting girl band member turned gospel singer Michelle on a spiritual retreat and said the moment he knew she was the one he was straight out to buy the ring.
“When I had the moment that I knew Michelle was it, I was so excited to get that money and go buy that ring.”
However he wasn't without temptation to blow the money on another big ticket item before he met his bride-to-be, saying: “At six, seven, eight years in, I wanted to pull that money out and spend it on a sports car!”
Luckily for Michelle he resisted, because that is one beautiful engagement ring.
