Plunging necklines and lashings of lace - the best bridal trends from New York Bridal Fashion Week 2017

Hayley Paige, Berta and Monique Lhuillier among the designers showcasing their 2018 wedding collections at Bridal Market NY.

The world's top designers descended on New York this weekend to showcase their Spring 2018 and brides and bloggers alike were all aflutter with the emerging trends.

Former Queen of bridal Vera Wang played with increasingly odd 70s-inspired silhouettes while other heavy-hitters such as Oscar de la Renta, Naeem Khan and Carolina Herrera again challenged bridal traditions with slick bridal pants and sassy jumpsuits.

Cape and capelet were the accessories of choice for most designers, with the likes of Peter Langner and Mira Zwillinger favouring funky cropped cover-ups and others such as Berta, Monique Lhuillier and Francesca Miranda opting for glorious, regal style, floor-skimming styles.

Followers of #nybfw on Instagram were treated to some gorgeous backstage pics from some of the most exclusive catwalks as bloggers, magazine reporters and buyers snapped their way through glamorous shows from the likes of Marchesa, Lazaro and Irish-led, New York-based design house Theia Couture.

Princess Ballgowns and Plunging Necklines

It was all about texture at Hayley Paige, a designer known for her playful, princess-style ballgowns and muted pastel colour palettes. Feathers, 3D petal appliqués, delicate scalloped low lace backs and lusciously wrapped tulle created depth and drama, adding sparkle to spaghetti straps and putting Paige instantly on the prediction list for most-popular-on-Pinterest: 2018 edition.

Plunging necklines were the order of the day at Israeli design house Berta, who continued to push the bridal boundaries with sheer bodices, cutouts and racy thigh high slits, while Lebanese designer Gemy Maalouf made waves with layer upon layer of lavish lace.

Irish brides' favourite Jenny Packham showcased yet another successful collection of whispy, flowing A-lines complete with Packham's signature hand beaded bodices. The UK designer featured statement sleeves throughout the collection, suggesting the trend that has become a staple on the spring/summer 2017 high street will be hanging around for another year.
