And hot on the heels of Pantone's highly anticipated announcement of the colour of the year for 2018 (spoiler alert, it's purple, or 'Ultra Violet', as the colour institute has christened it) - comes Pinterest's annual trend forecast for the year ahead.
Pinterest's top 100 takes into account trends across the board, from home decor and street fashion, to DIY and travel, and publishes the trend predictions from their top categories.
Among those to look out for this year include some that will no doubt make their way into weddings (the ultimate party and a microcosm of life itself, of course).
Ballooons filled with foliage, glitter and confetti are looking big for party decor for 2018. Brides and grooms are already fans of course, with many using oversized balloons for gorgeous whimsical photos with their wedding party. This year foil balloons will announce the presence of a cake table, give guests a way to say 'YAY' in photo booths, and appear dotted around reception rooms filled with cute colourful confetti. [Saves for “filled balloons” +86%]
Double Duty Guest Books
Guest book keepsakes have seen a 216% rise in saves on Pinterest, with the likes of Jenga blocks with jotted notes and even signed surfboards being pinned by thousands of users. A guest book is a lovely time capsule and a great keepsake for a happy couple, and having a bit more fun with it (ie Poloroid photo album, thumb-print tree graphic) might mean guests will be even more inclined to take the time to sign it.
Up a massive 346% from last year is 'river cruise' saves, with Pinners keen to take their holidays in more unusual ways with stunning natural scenery. A cruise along the Mekong in Vietnam has been a honeymoon fave for quite some time, and Pinterest are also seeing wanderlusters saving snaps of river cruises on the likes of The Rhine in Germany and The Nile in Egypt.
Camper van Vacations
For the even more adventurous honeymooners, camper van vacations look to have quite the appeal at the moment. Saves for 'camper remodels' are up a staggering 933% on the site - because who said marriage was an infinity pool in Bali?
Fashion & Beauty
Lush Lip Tints
Beauty-wise, Pinterest reports a 414% increase in saves for 'lip tint' images. Brides who normally keep their make up low key are usually encouraged to keep their big day beauty to a minimum (so their partner will still recognise them when they arrive up the aisle!) so a lip tint could be perfect to give a hint of colour to lips in photos, without looking too done up.
Embellished shoes have been a wedding trend for years now, with brides looking for something very special to walk up the aisle in on their big day. Pinterest is seeing a 200+% in saves for glitzy footwear, with studs, pearls and stone decorated kicks exciting Pinners the most (we suspect Serena Williams' wedding Nikes may have something to do with this).
Food & Drink
While vegan people don't eat animal products, dairy avoidance appears to have gone mainstream, with saves for 'vegan desserts' up a huge 329%. Pinterest suggests trading coconut oil for butter and flax seeds for eggs (or try chia!) but of course it's all about getting that Instagram look with your sweet. Vegan options are a great addition to dessert tables at weddings, and if your venue allows it, a 'bake-off' style course for guess to enjoy each other's kitchen skills is a great way to get everyone involved in the big day.
Last year was all about the signature cocktail, and proving that more and more of us are considering our health as our wealth, this year the signature cocktail has gone alcohol-less. Recipes for 'virgin cocktails' have seen a 160% rise in save, as people look to serve mocktails that not only look good but taste great too.
'Moroccan' saves are up a huge 2579% as Pinners look to the North African country for inspiration for everything from dreamy decor to delicious dishes. While the Irish wedding is notorious for its beef or salmon dinners, recent years have seen many venues upping the 'foodie' element of the day, and introducing new flavours for well travelled couples who want something a little different to serve up to guests at the table. A Moroccan wedding feast sounds perfect to us.
Finger tattoos, according to Pinterest, are having a 'major moment' and saves are up 252%. Elsewhere a trend in matching tattoos has been reported for couples looking to celebrate their commitment with something other than a wedding band. We reckon Beyonce is behind this one.
