Anne-Therese O'Connor and her husband Stephen tied the knot at Carton House, Kildare, having fallen in love in Brisbane, Australia. The pair first met playing at the GAA club in the city, but wanted to share their wedding with their loved ones back at home.
"Stephen is from Tyrone and I'm from Dublin, so it was always going to be really expensive to have all our friends and family over [in Brisbane]," she said.
"We have grandparents who wanted to be there as well, so it made sense to have it in Ireland."
Anne-Therese then threw herself into planning her big day, with the help of the internet, Ireland-based relatives and an Excel spreadsheet. "You might have had to have a wedding planner years ago, but it is quite easy to do-it-yourself now."
The newlyweds also asked guests to make a donation to cancer research in lieu of wedding gifts.
Anne-Therese and Stephen returned home for good a couple of months ago. "Now we have our jobs sorted, we're going to start looking at houses soon," she said.
