‘I opened the oyster and saw the ring of my dreams’: Irish woman on her boyfriend's romantic proposal at Taste of Dublin

An Irish woman was served up a hearty plate of romance at yesterday’s Taste of Dublin, when her boyfriend got down on bended knee and proposed... with an oyster.

Amy Costigan had a particularly eventful day at the annual festival and came away with a sparkler after her love of three years Donal O’Neill popped the question with a delicacy from Dublin restaurant Klaw.

“I wasn’t expecting it at all. We went to Taste last year and had a great day so decided to go again this year. I love fish so Donal went off to get us some fish and chips, and he came back with an oyster.

“I said I didn’t want to try it, but he insisted I open it. I did and I was shocked. There was the most beautiful ring. He then got on one knee and gave a bit of a spiel. It was very romantic.

“We went over to Klaw then, where they had a few glasses of champagne,” she said.

Newly engaged Amy revealed that Donal’s plans were in the works for a few weeks and he was delighted that they went off without a hitch.

“I love crab claws so he originally wanted to put the ring in between them. There weren’t on the menu at Klaw so he got the next best thing,” she said.

“It was such a lovely day and he did a great job with the ring. It’s beautiful,” said Amy.
