Real Irish Weddings: Elma and Michael had a day of homemade charm

Elma, from Laois and Michael, from Petersborough in the UK met on a night out in Flannery's pub eight years ago and had their first date in The Porterhouse only a few days later.

The pair got engaged on Valentine's day 2015 when Michael took Elma on a surprise trip to Westport proposing to her on a walk after dinner.

The pair got married in St Luna's church in Cadamstown, Co Offaly - by the same priest who married Elma's parents 35 years ago - before holding their reception at the picturesque Kinnitty Castle.

Elma says: "We like a rustic style so the wedding kind of followed suit. It wasn't really a plan to have a theme, it was just that we chose things that we liked. The camper van, short dress, brown kraft invitations and Mass scrolls, suitcase table plan, were all just bits and pieces that we fancied! I picked up some colourful wellies online and heart-shaped umbrellas for some fun photos in a stream by an old mill across from the church."

The pair made their table plan from Elma's grandmother's old suitcase which she painted. They also made mass scrolls which they tied with some burlap lace as well as a songbook to encourage people to sing "till the wee hours" in the Dungeon bar.

Elma found her pretty vintage style dress in Frilly Frocks, Drogheda and her bridesmaid got her dress from The Bridal Hall in Ballybrittas, Co Laois.

Elma and Michael enjoyed their honeymoon in Vietnam for two weeks, staying at the Mia Resort in Nha Trang for a week, before travelling to Hanoi and Halong Bay.
