Real Irish Weddings: Ladies Day at the Galway races led to romance for Sinead and John

Sinead, from Roscommon, and John, from Limerick, met the good old-fashioned way - on Ladies Day at the Galway races in the Radisson Blu hotel, Galway. "I was celebrating my winnings when he danced his way into my life. We got chatting and the rest is history," says Sinead.

John proposed to Sinead atop Croagh Patrick on one of the couple's regular climbs there.

"When we reached the top, we discovered the little church was open. We had been there many times before and it was always closed. John told me to get my phone to take a picture of us and when I turned around there he was on one knee," recalls Sinead.

The pair held their ceremony in the local church in Maree in Galway, where friends and neighbours helped them prepare in the days coming up to the wedding. And when it came to reception venues there was only one option for this couple - the hotel where they met five years ago.

The couple chose to use a purple colour scheme for their big day, matching everything from the bridesmaid's dresses to the balloons. And as a last minute touch the day before the wedding, Sinead and John organised for ice-cream to be served outside the church after the ceremony, knowing it was likely to be a hot day.

After the wedding Sinead and John took a few days to relax in Lyrath Estate, Co Kilkenny, but they will soon be jetting off for their all-American honeymoon where they'll travel to New York, Boston, Florida and Las Vegas.
