Footballer Kevin Long chooses Ireland over groomsman duties

Burnley defender says he will miss brother's wedding as he is called up for Ireland duties

Would you forgive your brother for missing your big day for work?

That's the question Burnley defender Kevin Long's big bro will have to ask himself now the Corkonian has been called up for his country by Martin O'Neill.

Long told Burnley FC's website he believes his brother will give him a pass for missing his special day if he gets a cap for Ireland this summer.

"I think I will miss it. He won't be too happy, but if I play a game he'll be all right," said the footballer, who was meant to act as a groomsman for the upcoming wedding.

"I was also supposed to be going to Marbella with the family, but I'm sure they won't mind if I get a cap."

The 26-year-old will join the 38-man squad for the World Cup qualifier against Austria in Dublin on the 11th of June.

"I wasn't expecting it. I'm shocked but really happy," said Long. "I spoke to my parents and all my brothers and everyone is buzzing."
