They sent out 'save the date' postcards with pictures of them in different places all around the world.
Their invitations depicted a map of the world, and on them a quote; "It doesn't matter where you go, it's who you have beside you".
For their big day however, the couple's feet were planted firmly on home soil. Smack bang in the centre of the capital, and in one of the most recognised backdrops in the country, if not the world.
The couple said their vows with their friends and family on either side which, given the rather grand setting, made the occasion feel entirely intimate.
The day went smoothly, despite the rain, and more surprisingly perhaps, despite the bride's mother taking a scissors to the wedding dress before the day was through...

The bride wore an intricate, mermaid style Julia Kontogruni gown which featured an illusion back and long lace scalloped train (the details of which were captured beautifully from above by Nick O'Keeffe as the couple exited the church).
Groom Tom wore Remus Uomo from Arnotts, while his groomsmen donned Benetti suits sourced from Protocol in Dublin.
The bridesmaids sparkled in gold sequin dresses by Sorella Vita and Anna's mother wore Aideen Bodkin, accessorised with a hat by Jennifer Wrynne.
Anne and Tom tied the knot in Trinity College Chapel in Dublin and held their reception in Carton House, Maynooth.
"We had viewed seven or eight venues before going to see Carton House," said the bride. "Some horrible and some gorgeous... But because we were getting married in March and because it's Ireland we wanted a venue where it didn't matter if it was raining on the day."
"We also were torn between something modern and something with a bit more character and Carton House had both, from having the drinks reception in the old house to having the reception in the modern ball room it was the perfect mix.
"There was also loads of options for photos whether it rained or shined, the main selling point though was the staff. They were so lovely and couldn't do more to help.
Anna has plenty of great tips for couples planning to tie the knot, including not being too precious about your outfit!
"Getting married in March as opposed to the height of summer gives more availability and choice and freedom in terms of suppliers. Don't listen to other people when it comes to timelines, there'll always be people who book things years in advance, but take it at your own pace."
"The day flies by so enjoy every second. Our ceremony was at 12, which is early for today's standards, but it still flew by. The main piece of advice is it's your day, so do things the way you want to."
And about being too precious about the designer wedding gown?
Before the first dance my mum and bridesmaids took a scissors to the train of my dress because it was too heavy to bustle, and the weight of it was already making my back hurt, loads of guests were horrified, but it meant I danced the night away til 6am and a lot of women at the wedding admitted to me afterwards that their dress was sitting in their Attics in pristine condition for years and that I was dead right to cut the dress and enjoy my night.
The Stand-out Moments
"The wedding ceremony, there was such a big build up and then it was really calm and relaxed and everyone was enjoying themselves and laughing and the setting was beautiful and the music was incredible.
"The fact everyone was facing each other made it feel more informal and personal and we could see everyone.
