The Wedding Collection from the Independent Archives reveals our enduring love affair with the white wedding and shows just how much things have, or haven't, changed since the early 1900s.
The Wedding Collection features well-known Irish figures - such as broadcaster Pat Kenny and his bride Cathy, and former Taoiseach John Bruton and his wife Finola - as well as the weddings of readers who were featured in the Irish Independent's social pages in the 1960s and 1970s.
This enchanting collection of images details changing trends in society, as well as changing trends in style. The floor-grazing veils of the early 1930s were traded in for fitted and flared 1950s dresses, then puffballs and ruffles in the 1980s, and finally thigh-skimming 1990s numbers - all in all, a rather fashionable snapshot of 20th-century Ireland.
No matter what the dress or the decade, the one thing that all of these photographs have in common is the evident love and happiness, now captured and preserved for all time.
Here, we bring you a selection of images from the Independent Archives Wedding Collection.
