Five-year-old girl with heart condition has wish to 'marry' her best friend granted

A mock wedding shoot was staged for little Sophia ahead of her open-heart surgery

A five-year-old girl who was 'born with half a heart' has had her wish to 'marry' her best friend, whom she called 'the love of her life', granted.

Sophia Chiappalone, who is based in Meriden, Conneticut, has spent her young life undergoing repeated operations, but her only dream ahead of her next serious surgery was to marry her 'boyfriend' Hunter Laferriere.

"That’s all she wanted in the world, was to marry the love of her life," her mother Kristy told NBC Connecticut.

When Hunter's mom heard about Sophia's wish, she contacted her best friend, photographer Sassy Mouth Photography, about doing a 'mock bridal photo shoot'.

The photographer was happy to shoot the photos, and an adorable white gown was donated for the shoot by a local bridal store.

"She's a walking miracle," Kristy said of her daughter who is due to travel to Boston to have her third open-heart surgery.

To help with Sophia's medical bills, Kristy set up a GoFundMe page.

"As a single mom, being away at the hospital for undetermined amounts of time with your special needs child gets very expensive," she explained on the crowdfunding site. "I even have to pay to park and eat."

At time of writing they have raised $15,501 of the $20,000 goal.
