They established a long-lasting friendship working together in the RTE newsroom and on Sunday, the retired anchor will walk pal Aengus Mac Grianna down the aisle.
In addition to her best woman’ duties for 49-year-old Aengus and partner Terry (39) as they tie the knot in a humanist ceremony in Ballymagarvery village in Co Meath, the doyenne of the Montrose studio will also be toasting the marriage of the son of her partner David McGrattan.
The ex-broadcaster told the Diary she can’t wait for the festivities to kick off, but that she’s going to need plenty of rest when the celebrations cool down.
“I’ll be in need of 36 hours sleep I’d imagine on Sunday after the weddings, but hey, the sun is shining and it’ll be great,” she said.
Wexford native Anne shares her special role at Aengus’s big day with Terry’s mother, who will also lead her son to the altar.
“It will be a wonderful day and I’m absolutely thrilled for them both,” she said.
“I’m not giving a speech thanks be to goodness, I’m rather pleased about that but I’m sure I’ll say quite a lot before the day is out.”
A host of RTE stars, including Bryan Dobson, are expected to be on the guest list at the lavish nuptials.
Aengus and Terry met 10 years ago in a bar and the pair live together on an alpaca farm in Co Dublin.
Since signing off and bowing out of the newsroom in December 2011, Anne has been jet-setting around the world.
“I’m retired, my life’s a holiday,” Anne laughed.
