‘Wedding Shorts’ are in: Olivia Palermo starts yet another trend

After she said her vows in a pair of tulle shorts, are brides rushing to emulate style maven Olivia Palermo?

Popular American retailer J. Crew is the first to cotton on to the trend.

The company has introduced a pair of shorts into its bridal lookbook for Spring Summer 2015. Not just any shorts mind you - athletic-style, sequined shorts complete with pockets.

J.Crew's director of wedding design, Molly Schaul, explains the reason for the innovation, saying: "A lot of modern brides are always looking for something that will allow them to take a risk and be unique at their weddings but still keep that timeless aesthetic so they'll be happy looking back at their photographs in twenty years.”

“The shorts are a perfect option for beach weddings but also offer a really unique opportunity to be bold in a casual setting,” she added.

The shorts are up for grabs for $450 (approx €393) while the matching racer-back tank will set brides back €349.

These bridal shorts are the latest novel trend shaking up the bridal wear industry.

Designers such as Elie Saab and Monique Lhuillier famed for their intricate couture gowns have created lace and embellished jumpsuits, possibly inspired by Solange Knowles.

Meanwhile, Kerry-born designer Don O’Neill sent a model wearing a crop top and billowing chiffon maxi skirt down the runway at his label Theia’s Couture show.
