The Vow

Yes, Minister: Minister McEntee ties knot

Minister Helen McEntee married her long-term love Paul Hickey in a private ceremony yesterday.

The bride was beaming as she said "I do" to her fiancé in her parish church in Castletown, near Nobber, Co Meath.

Romance blossomed between Ms McEntee (31) and Mr Hickey in Dáil Éireann when he worked as a parliamentary assistant to Government Chief Whip Joe McHugh. However, the dress code on the big day was strictly politician-free as the couple decided not to invite Government colleagues, keeping the occasion for their circle of 350 family and close friends.

Arriving late by just 15 minutes, the European Affairs Minister turned heads with a backless ivory dress with plunging neck-line and net skirt. Her brother Vincent walked her down the aisle.

Ms McEntee's father Shane and Mr Hickey's father Paul were remembered in prayer.

Proud mums Kathleen McEntee and Maria Hickey brought gifts to the altar.

The couple celebrated in Cabra Castle, Co Cavan.
