The former 2fm presenter got married to long-term partner Rob Morgan at Bunratty Castle in Co Clare at the end of last month.
Unlike some brides, who get up bright and early to begin getting ready, Ruth took a more relaxed approach.
"It was brilliant, it was amazing. We had the best craic. Some people say they find their day difficult and they don't enjoy it, but we had an absolute blast the whole day long," she said.
"It didn't start until late in the afternoon. It was very relaxed. I only started to get ready about half past one.
"You hear about brides who get up at 7am to get their hair done, which sounds horrific."
The couple decided to have a non-religious ceremony in front of their 175 guests.
"We had a humanist wedding. It's like a Mass without religion, there is an element of ceremony to it. Some people do hand tying. We got to involve lots of people. Where in a Mass you would have readings and prayers, we had poems read out," she said.
Following their special day, Rob whisked Ruth off on their honeymoon to the Austrian countryside.
"The honeymoon was fabulous. We went to a place up the mountains in Austria," she told the Diary.
"It was very much 'the hills are alive'. Even though it was 30 degrees when we were there, there was some of the mountains. It was in the countryside. It was very peaceful.
"We knew we wanted to go away for a week and decided on somewhere in Europe, and my husband speaks fluent German so we said, 'let's go somewhere like that'.
"He found it online and said, 'what do you think?'. He's wasted as an accountant. He'd be great as a holiday planner."
Ruth left her previous gig at 2fm after 18 years, and was replaced by Two Tube presenter Stephen Byrne.
She is now back on the airwaves with a new slot on Radio Nova, where she will be working alongside her former 2fm co-worker Colm Hayes.
"I just am literally back from my honeymoon from five minutes and now back on the radio this weekend. I get such a kick out of being on the air," she said.
"I am the youngest of eight kids and was always open to older music, and I've always loved what Radio Nova do.
"I had been chatting to them for a little while and the word is getting around.
"I was distracted with the wedding prep.
"I'm really looking forward to being back on the air as well and back working with Colm Hayes - it's such a small world."
